What Is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology at OneWell
Assistive Technology includes tools, devices, and systems that help individuals complete daily activities more independently and with greater confidence. These supports can be simple or advanced and are always chosen based on what works best for the individual.
Assistive Technology is never one-size-fits-all. Each solution is personalized to support real-life routines, meaningful goals, and individual needs.
Communication and self-expression
Daily routines and organization
Medication management
Safety awareness
Community participation
Independent living skills
Our Care Philosophy
Our Assistive Technology Philosophy
We believe effective Assistive Technology services should be:
Person-centered
Built around individual goals, preferences, and environments
Functional and meaningful
Designed for real-world use in everyday life
Collaborative
Developed with individuals, families, staff, and service coordinators
Ethical and respectful
Promoting dignity, autonomy, and choice
Supportive, not substitutive
Enhancing existing services without replacing supervision or supports
The OneWell Assistive Technology Process
Our Assistive Technology services follow a clear and supportive process so individuals and teams know what to expect.
1. Identification of Need or Referral
Assistive Technology needs may be identified through referrals from individuals, families, service coordinators, or providers.
2. Review of Authorization
We review planning documents to ensure Assistive Technology aligns with waiver and service plan requirements and handle the necessary planning requirements.
3. Person-Centered Assessment
We learn about the individual’s goals, daily routines, environments, existing supports, and preferences to identify unique functional needs.
4. Plan Development
Recommendations are developed to support individualized goals and are reviewed collaboratively with the team to ensure the technology fits the user's life.
5. Delivery, Setup, and Training
Once approved, Assistive Technology is delivered and set up. We provide individualized training to ensure confidence in using the new tools.
6. Follow-Up and Support
We provide continued guidance and support to ensure Assistive Technology remains effective as needs change over time.
Assistive Technology Is More Than Devices
At OneWell Health Care, we believe technology is only as good as the support behind it. Assistive Technology includes both the tools themselves and the specialized services that ensure those tools are used successfully.
Individuals and families are never expected to figure things out on their own. Our team provides guidance every step of the way to support long-term success.
